About Binet

History:

Originally founded in 1961 as a private school for children with learning disabilities, the Alfred Binet School became part of Jefferson County Public Schools in 1974.  For the 1980 school year, the population transitioned from students with learning disabilities to students with multiple disabilities. Currently, Binet serves students with low incidence disabilities, including multiple and severe disabilities and autism, which affect their communication and behavior. Most students at Binet experience processing difficulties.  Binet provides a highly structured and supportive environment to meet the students’ needs.

The Binet School offers a structured environment to meet the individual needs of each student. Binet teaches the whole student, addressing academic, social, behavioral, physical and cognitive areas. Instructional staff serve students ages 5 to 21 through direct, systematic instruction using Evidence Based Practices individualized to the student.  Instructional practices and curriculum address skills ranging from readiness to work transition.
