Portland Elementary Family Resource Center (FRC) was created as part of the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA) to provide information and/or referrals to families in the Portland community area. There are many barriers that can interfere with a child's success in school. The FRC works diligently to ensure that needed resources and supports are made available in order to remove those barriers.

Portland FRC strives to provide an inviting and warm atmosphere where parents feel comfortable and confident taking part in their children's lives. Portland FRC works collaboratively with a multitude of community partners to help remove those nonacademic barriers and replace them with a stable, structured learning environment.

Portland FRC is open 8:30a.m. to 3:40 p.m. and after hours as needed. Some of the services provided by the FRC are as follows:

  • Health services with implementation of a "one-stop shop" to get needed routine exams done on time

  • Tutoring services and referrals

  • Support groups for families and students

  • Holiday assistance

  • Clothing assistance

  • Food assistance

  • Housing referrals

  • Transportation assistance

  • Mental health services

  • After-school program, including after-school meals

  • Family nights to help promote family involvement

  • Kindergarten Camp

  • Mentoring services

  • Attendance Groups/Incentives/Supports
