What is Winter Guard?

Winter guard is the sport of indoor color guard. Modern color guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles, and other equipment, dance, and other interpretive movements.

Winter Guard typically runs from January to early April.

Ms. Adams

Ms. Adams

Ms. Adams has been teaching color guard since 2005. She has taught in Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida at various high schools as well as the University of Louisville. As a performer, she has earned ISSMA State runner-up twice, 3rd place, and 4th place in Class A. She was a member of an Open Class winter guard program earning runner up at the IHSCGA Open Class State Championships.  She was also a member of an independent A winter guard for two years, performing at WGI Championships.  Her student programs have earned IHSCGA State Championship titles and ISSMA Championship top 4 placements.  Ms. Adams teaches junior English at Fairdale High School!

Ms. Brittany Burkhead

Ms. Brittany Burkhead

Mrs. Burkhead was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Louisville Male High School and was apart of the concert band, color guard, and winter guard programs. She attended the University of Louisville and was a proud color guard member and color guard section leader of the Cardinal Marching Band.

Mrs. Burkhead was also a member of the Elizabethtown Independent Winter Guard for two seasons and performed at the WGI World Championships. 

Mrs. Burkhead has been teaching color guard since 2010. She has taught with several different high school band programs in Jefferson, Bullitt, and Oldham County. 

Mrs. Burkhead is currently an Instructional Assistant in an elementary Deaf and Hard of Hearing classroom, but is pursuing her Masters in Deaf Education.
