Our mission is to empower all students to lead, learn, and value differences. Every Student, Every Day.

To accomplish our mission, our school is collaborating with the JCPS Deeper Learning Department and Author Paul Emerich France to support students in their development of learner agency through a research lens.

Our school-wide research theme is: How might we scaffold learning experiences to develop learner agency?

Using our research theme, teachers implement learner agency strategies that promote an inclusive, equitable, and humanized learning experience.

This work is groundbreaking in education and for professional learning. To foster a growth mindset for professional learning, Wheeler serves the district as a lab school where other professionals visit us and watch our lab teachers implement these strategies. In addition, our staff participates in instructional rounds to engage in conversations about student learning to make sure all of our students are empowered to always lead, learn, and value differences.
