We Love Our Bulldog Volunteers

We are always in need of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer in the lunchroom, classroom, or in any other capacity, please contact any of the Bloom teachers or the front office at 485-8211. Many volunteers opportunities require you to complete the background check, so go ahead and do that ASAP: Background checks online.

Anytime Volunteering

  1. Cafe Volunteering: We REALLY need volunteers to help during lunch. We call these special heroes our School Cafe Cardio volunteers. Click Here to sign-up to be a School Cafe Cardio for the beginning of the year. Keep an eye out for future School Cafe Cardio forms too. All caregivers, grand-friends, etc. can volunteer in the cafeteria - make sure to have a background check on file with JCPS/Bloom (see the link above).

  2. Arrival & Dismissal Teams: The admin team and office can help train you to welcome our students to school in the mornings and to help with a safe dismissal. These are both needed areas for kind and calm volunteers. Admin/office staff will train these volunteers. All caregivers, grand-friends, etc. can volunteer for arrival and dismissal - make sure to have a background check on file with JCPS/Bloom (see the link above).

    • Arrival Team volunteer time: 7a - 8a

    • Dismissal Team volunteer time: 2p - 2:40p

  3. Recess Volunteering: Help monitor. Help with Gaga. Walk and talk. There's so much to do on the playground. All caregivers, grand-friends, etc. can volunteer for recess - make sure to have a background check on file with JCPS/Bloom (see the link above).

  4. Read Aloud on Fridays: Come inside Bloom to read aloud a book to any class. Heck, you could even setup a virtual read aloud with teachers. Not just homeroom teachers, even special area teachers. All caregivers, grand-friends, etc. can read to a class. You do not need a volunteer check to read aloud to a class on Fridays.

  5. Committees: Bloom Elementary and the Bloom PTA both have committees that work on all the things that make Bloom a better place. Reach out the office or the Bloom PTA if you're interested in serving on a committee.

Plan Ahead Volunteering

  1. In Classrooms: This requires planning on part of the teacher and volunteers, Not all teachers are capable of using volunteers and that's 100% supported by admin. Caregivers and grand-friends shold reach out to teachers and ask if they would like a volunteer and go from there. Again, admin does not require teachers to do this form of volunteering. Possible volunteer opportunities in the classroom are:

    • Read books aloud throughout the week

    • Small group work/help with centers

    • Crafts, art, etc.

  2. Campus Clean-up: We are a HUGE three-story school in an urban setting, with a playground, alleys, gardens, etc. We can always use a helping hand to help keep our campus clean. A beautiful school campus is key to being welcoming and desirable. This is an instant gratification opportunity because you get positive results immediately. Reach out to the office or admin if you're interested in this volunteer opportunity.

  3. PTA Volunteering: Bloom's PTA needs a LOT of volunteers! Please help them bring all the good things to Bloom for the students. Contact the PTA today and see where you can help out: bloomelementarypta@gmail.com

    • New to Bloom Scavenger Hunt (August)

    • Bloom's PTA Back to School Picnic (August)

    • Grand-friends Days (maybe September)

    • Monster Bash (October)

    • Bloom-Fest (April)

  4. Other Ideas: Feel free to reach out to Bloom teachers, admin, or the PTA if you have other volunteer idea opportunities.

Join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)!

Joining the PTA is a great way to get involved with your child's school! The money raised by the PTA supports many of our arts programs at Bloom, including our artist-in-residence program, as well as other awesome cultural events. If you would like to join the PTA, please contact the school.
