Mission

We believe all students at Hartstern Elementary School can learn at high levels and be successful when nurtured in a caring environment.

Vision

Hartstern’s vision is to produce self-sufficient children for the twenty-first century who are taught by professional, talented staff in a caring and sharing environment. We are a community that fosters learning and caring.

Harstern will continue to have a strong academic program emphasizing more hands-on, student-centered activities. The staff will improve self-esteem and effective discipline while instilling a desire to learn and work cooperatively. We will increase our cooperation and communication between students, staff, parents, and community through our School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council and Family Resource Center (FRC).

ELD

English Language Development (ELD) teachers work collaboratively with classroom teachers to help students with improve English proficiency. The ELD teachers use specially designed methods that help Multi-lingual, ML students develop English language and literacy skills while they study required subject matter for their grade levels.

Leader in Me

Leader in Me provides elementary schools with a model and process that addresses common challenges that are unique to students during these formative years. Parents, educators, and school administrators are concerned with their child’s physical, mental, social, and economic well-being, all of which are factors that can contribute to or hinder academic success. Teachers, staff, and administrators at Leader in Me Schools are empowered to provide support in all of these areas by creating a learning environment that addresses whole-child education with five (5) Core Paradigms. These paradigms influence the behavior of staff, students, and their families.

Special Areas

At Harstern, all students attend weekly art, music, library, technology and P.E. classes. Special area teachers work collaboratively with regular classroom teachers to plan special projects that go along with the curriculum.

PTA

PTA is an integral part of our school community. Our PTA volunteers help with fundraisers and special activities. We encourage all parents to join our PTA and become involved as volunteers.
