Standards-Based Grading

What is Standard’s Based Grading?

Standards Based Grading is a grading practice used by teachers to measure students’ levels of achievement and mastery of standards. Students are graded on their ability to demonstrate mastery of standards.

What does this mean and how does it impact my student?

  • Students are given multiple opportunities to practice and apply skills taught.

  • Grades reflect mastery of defined learning targets, instead of the accumulation of averaged points.

  • Teachers, students, and parents have a more clear understanding of standards and students’ level of proficiency regarding each individual standard.

  • Teachers have a clear indication of students’ level of understanding of standards & learning targets, and are able to adjust their teaching practices to meet the needs of each student.
