The Communications & Community Relations Division is responsible for managing and promoting all forms of communication between the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) and its stakeholders, including parents, students, staff, and the wider community. This involves developing and implementing communication strategies, creating marketing materials, managing social media channels, responding to media inquiries, and organizing and promoting events. The division also works closely with schools and other departments within JCPS to ensure consistent communication and messaging across the district.
The JCPS Communications Department will take all media requests for access to a school during regular school hours.
The department and the school will determine if the access request is appropriate. All reporters—and all guests—are required to sign in in the school’s main office, wear a guest pass at all times, and comply with all district policies and local and state laws concerning the use of minors in news and broadcasting.
Reporters must have permission to be on a school campus.
Reporters are allowed access to students and school activities only at the discretion of JCPS Communications and the principal.
Reporters are not allowed in classrooms that are testing.
Reporters may be allowed in classrooms at the discretion of JCPS Communications, the principal, and the teacher.
JCPS Communications, the principal, and the teacher must approve student interviews.
Large-group shots of students are permitted, but personally identifiable photographs or videos of some students may not be allowed if their parent or guardian has signed a form opting their child out of implied permission to be photographed or videotaped.
The JCPS Communications Department offers a range of services for local and national media:
Responds to inquiries by providing information, statements, and guidance
Plans and hosts events and press conferences to announce JCPS news and progress
Drafts and issues news releases, advisories, public statements, and other coordinated communications efforts

The Communications Department produces a wide range of videos, many of which are available on the JCPS YouTube Channel.
The district's video specialists have earned several awards, including an EMMY for Our Kids, a 30-minute monthly television program highlighting happenings in JCPS schools. High school students host the show, and it includes reports from student correspondents.
The district’s video specialists are also available to help schools and departments create videos for television and online formats. Please contact them with requests.
